Promoting Student Safety: SCPD, TOB and District Message re: eBikes and eScooters
Dear West Babylon Families,
I am reaching out on behalf of the Suffolk County Police Department, the Town of Babylon, and the District regarding a growing safety concern involving E-bikes and E-scooters. During the past school year, the Suffolk County Police Department responded to numerous incidents involving these devices, with dozens of children having been injured, some seriously.
As we begin a new school year, SCPD and the Town of Babylon are working proactively to educate students and parents about the laws, risks, and safe operation of E-bikes and E-scooters before additional preventable injuries occur.
To support this effort, please find SCPD and TOB parent flyers concerning E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety and legal warnings. Please also note that e-Bikes and e-Scooters are not allowed on WB school grounds and fields.
Together, we can help ensure students and parents are informed and better prepared to make safe decisions regarding E-bike and E-scooter use.
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly
Superintendent of Schools
